From his capital at Samarkand Timur spread destruction far and wide. In 36 cruelly conducted campaigns he conquered from Syria to Delhi and left a path of horror, ruins and desolated countries.

Although he never took up permanent residence he strove to make his capital Samarkand the most splendid city in Asia. Before the beginning of a 'Holy War' against China the conqueror died and his empire with him.
