PETRARCA 1304 - 1374 Italian Poet Petrarca was a scholar of classical antiquity and the founder of humanism. He is considered one of the great love poets. Francisco Petrarca (also Petrarch) was born in Arezzo, Italy. He traveled in search for classical manuscripts which he found in many monasteries and became known as the greatest scholar of his age and a founder of the modern Italian language together with Dante and Boccaccio. He asserted the continuity of classical culture and paved the way for the ideas of the Renaissance. |
