IBN KHALDUN 1332 - 1406 Arab Historian Ibn Khaldun was born in Tunis, North Africa. He held several administrative posts in North Africa and Spain. During his stay in Algeria (1375-79) he wrote his masterpiece 'Muqaddimah' which was one of the earliest non-religious philosophies of history. In 1382 he moved to Egypt where he worked as a teacher and judge and where wrote a history of Muslim North Africa. Ibn Khaldun's influence on the subject of history, philosophy of history, sociology, political science and education has remained paramount ever since his life. His books have been translated into many languages, both in the East and the West, and have inspired subsequent development of these sciences. |
