Saint DOMINIC 1170 - 1221 Spanish Churchman Dominic was born in Castile where he joined a religious order. He accompanied his bishop on a trip to the Albigensian heretics in southern France. In 1206 he began preaching to the heretics and in 1216 received papal approval for a religious order devoted to preaching. The Order of Friars (Dominicans) was a novel form of religious order with a universal mission of preaching and great emphasis of scholarship. |
