ABELARD 1079 - 1142 French Theologian Abelard was the leading thinker of the Middle Ages and his book "Sic et Non" became a standard textbook in medieval scholasticism. But during his lifetime he was a controversial teacher and his book 'Theologia' was declared heretical and burned. Pope Innocent II condemmed his teaching in 1140. Abelard died after being reconciled with the church. |
