WA-NI ? c.350 - c.430 ev. later date Korean Scholar Wa-ni is a legendary Korean-Chinese scholar who brought Chinese books of Confucian classics to Japan. For that reason Wa-ni is reputed to have introduced the Chinese characters to Japan. There is no definitive record of when the Japanese began to use Chinese characters - called kanji in Japanese. However, a description in the History Book of the Eastern Han Dynasty in China mentions a 'Seal' given to a Japanese delegation by the emperor in 57 AD. |
