ARIUS c.250 - c.336 Theologian in Alexandria Arius was a priest in Alexandria, Egypt. Arius was the author of the Arian controversy which taught that Christ was created - therefore not eternal - and different from the Father. Arius opponent, Athanasius, defended the orthodox inter-pretation of Trinity, saying that the Son is equal to the Father. Emperor Constantine called the Council of Nicaea in 325, where Arius was condemmed as heretical. |
