Saint AMBROSE c.339 - 397 Bishop of Milan Ambrose was born in Gaul. He became one of the most influential figures of his time. As bishop of Milan he evoked sanctions against Emperor Theodosius I for his massacre of a civilian populace. He modelled Christian duties after Cicero and fought to make the church independent of civil power. He was a leader, preacher, and author. Saint Ambrose was called a Doctor of the Western Church. |
