HORACE 65 B.C. - 8 B.C. Roman Poet Horace was a lyric poet, satirist and literary critic. He is generally considered one of the greatest poets of the world. Horace was the son of a freed slave. He studied in Rome and Athens until his study was interrupted by civil war after the murder of Caesar. Horace went to Rome, where the poet Virgil introduced him to a rich patron who gave him an estate. Horace became the most respected poet during the Augustan age, his most famous work are four books of short lyrics called 'Odes'. |
