KALLINOS c.728 - c.660 BC Greek Poet Note: Born possibly before 272 BC. Kallinos (or Callinus) was a Greek poet of Ephesus in Ionia. The imagery of his poems are Homeric but his treatment is fresh and he is regarded as the creator of the classical Greek song.
Ionia, in
Asia Minor, was invaded by tribes from southern Russia
at that time and Kallinos' poems are worshipping the
patriotic heroes defending his home town Ephesus.
