JEREMIAH c.649 - c.585 BC Hebrew Prophet Jeremiah was a prophet in Judah and author of an Old Testament book that bears his name. Jeremiah's message was of impending doom, but he promised a novel God of universal righteousness. He warned the Judeans about a Babylonian invasion, and prophesied that the Temple would be destroyed. When Nebuchadnessar, the Babylonian king, attacked Israel, the Temple was burned and leading citizens were taken captive, but Jeremiah was allowed to stay. After the assassination of the Babylonian governor, Jeremiah was taken to Egypt by the rebels. |
