ELISHA c.882 - c.798 BC Hebrew Prophet Elisha, or Eliseus, succeeded Elijah in the struggle to maintain the worship of Yaweh in the face of the invading cult of the Phoenician god Baal. Jehu was anointed as king of Israel by a delegate of Elisha. The prophet called upon the king to do away with the Baal cult. |
